SRP Issues 2026 All-Source RFP to Meet Increased Energy Demand

To meet the growing power demands of the Phoenix metropolitan area, SRP has issued a 2026 All-Source Request for Proposals (RFP) today, February 23.

The RFP seeks proposals for resources that can provide up to 2,900 megawatts (MW) of nameplate capacity, including carbon-free energy resources like solar and wind, wind associated with new interstate transmission projects and proposals to meet peak capacity need including energy storage and natural gas resources.

SRP will also welcome proposals for other resources and is particularly interested in exploring technologies that can provide carbon-free energy throughout the day, like geothermal and biomass resources.  These projects should be online by the 2031-2033 timeframe to support forecasted load growth.

In its Integrated System Plan, SRP found that it will need to at least double its generation capacity to meet projected energy demand in the next 10 years.

“Reliable, affordable power is top of mind for SRP as we continue to project significant load growth across the Valley in the coming years,” said Bill Mcclellan, SRP Director of Resource Planning. “The 2026 RFP supports that anticipated growth in the region and helps SRP continue to provide customers with the affordable and reliable power they depend on.”

SRP currently serves customer energy needs with a diverse portfolio that includes nuclear, hydroelectric, natural gas, coal and battery storage, as well as renewable resources like solar, wind, biomass and geothermal.

Resource projects selected through the 2026 All-Source RFP process will support SRP’s resource growth plans outlined in SRP’s Integrated System Plan as well as SRP’s  2035 Sustainability Goals. The RFP submission window will close on April 29, 2026. Information and updates are available on SRP’s RFP website.
